I will be the first to admit that winter is nowhere near my favourite season. It’s cold. It’s dull. Everything dies. The birds know what I’m talking about.
However, throw in a Winter Wonderland theme at the 22nd Annual Mirror Ball, and the season just went from drab to fab.
The Fairmont Royal York hosted the sparkling and icy event with a white carpet, and beautiful blue lighting to illuminate the entire room. A background clip of falling snow adds the perfect touch for guests (which included super model Stacey Mackenzie) to feel like they have walked into winter heaven. Despite the cold look, the warmth was felt by all guests who attended this charity ball, in honour of women who have been diagnosed with cancer.
All proceeds went to the Look Good, Feel Better Foundation, and by the end of the night they beat their target thanks to generous bidders of the beautiful live and silent auction.
The evening was hosted by the hilarious Jessica Holmes, who’s opened for such acts as Ellen Degeneres and Jerry Seinfeld. She went into character halfway through the night as an old, Russian woman singing a catchy and annoying song. The lyrics? I’m so happy, happy, happy, happy… get the point?
The menu included a 4-course meal, each paired with a separate wine to enhance the flavours. I must say, the dinner and dessert were talked about all the way til the end of the night. I know that I couldn’t stop gushing about it.
In the midst of a wonderful meal and fabulous conversation, a very special guest took to the stage.
Her name is Dionne Warner a.k.a. “Warrior D” and the reason behind this is not only fascinating but one of the most inspirational things I have ever heard.
She has survived cancer 8 times, and is still continuing the fight. Brain, breast, liver are just a few of the cancers she has battled.
But the message she gave everyone was not that she feels defeated, exhausted or down on her luck. Quite the opposite. She expressed the importance of always staying strong and feeling good about yourself. Looking the part is part of the battle, and she proved that by wearing a beautiful red, satin dress with a gorgeous smile and glowing with confidence.
Entertainment continued with a dance performance that got the party just pumped up enough to head over to the after Foodparty hosted by 4Korners.
